AhlulBayt News Agency: A brother of the late Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar has reportedly been killed in an Israeli airstrike targeting central Gaza.
Media outlets in Gaza reported that Zakaria Sinwar was killed along with three of his children when their tent in the Nuseirat refugee camp was struck on Saturday night.
Sinwar had previously served as a lecturer in modern and contemporary history at the Islamic University in Gaza.
The reports emerged shortly after Saudi television news network Al-Hadath claimed that the body of Mohammed Sinwar, Hamas’s leader in Gaza, was discovered inside a tunnel in Khan Yunis that had been bombed by the Israeli military.
The report alleged that ten of Sinwar’s aides were found alongside him, as well as Mohammed Shabana, commander of Hamas's Rafah Brigade.
There was no indication that Abu Ubaida, spokesperson for Hamas’s military wing Qassam Brigades, was present in the tunnel during the attack.
The Israeli military resumed bombardment of Gaza on March 18, killing thousands and injuring many more, after breaking a two-month ceasefire agreement with Hamas.
Since October 7, 2023, Israeli forces have killed at least 53,339 Palestinians, primarily women and children, and injured 121,034 others, according to Gaza’s Ministry of Health.
In November 2023, the International Criminal Court (ICC) issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former military affairs minister Yoav Gallant, citing war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza.
Additionally, Israel is facing a genocide case at the International Court of Justice (ICJ) for its ongoing war against the besieged Palestinian coastal territory.
